2010 Committees

Hospitality/Catering Committes-responsible for feeding dancers during the 40 hour event, roughly 10-12 meals for 700+ people per shift; soliciting all food from vendors; planning a healthy menu including a variety of foods; making sure water and electrolytes are provided at all times.

Dancer Relations Committee- responsible for keeping all dancers and organizations informed and updated prior to Dance Marathon by holding Dancer Representative meetings; develops and oversees all rules and regulations that pertain to fundraising, dancing, and spirit competitions; also responsible for overseeing the point distribution for pairing competition; regulates dancer registration at the event as well; creates and updates all alumni and dancer databases.


Entertainment Committee
- coordinates the involvement of entertainment groups including but not limited to performers, sports teams, bands, and dance groups for the event weekend.


Event Management Committee
- cares for the layout, setup, maintenance, security, and break down of the Dance Marathon facilities before, during, and after the event; oversees all security for the event through volunteers and FSU Police Department support; responsible for the physical facilities at Dance Marathon.

Family Relations Committee- coordinates the involvement of Miracle Families with the event as a whole as well as with larger organizations; organizes the family picnic prior to Dance Marathon; invites Miracle Families to the Homecoming Parade in the fall; brings Miracle families to Dancer Representative meetings; oversees and promotes the interaction of Miracle Families with pairings; recruits and accommodates families during Dance Marathon weekend, including the set up, utilization, and breakdown of the Family Room.


Fundraising Committee
- Split into External and Internal Fundraising, these chairs are responsible for all fundraising efforts that are centered on the FSU campus. These chairs will help organize all of the fundraising done within the individual pairings. In addition they will also be responsible for organizing canning at home football games, and other athletic events as permitted. The duty of coordinating the Letter Writing Campaign falls under these committees as well.

Marketing Committee- solicits local, regional, and national businesses to sponsor Dance Marathon within the Children’s Miracle Network market region (including garnering monetary donations as well as goods and services); creates, prepares, and prints an appropriate Marketing Packet during the summer prior to the event. At the event they are in charge of a Silent Auction.

Media Productions Committee- responsible for all technical aspects of dance marathon, including maintaining the Dance Marathon website in conjunction with the University, working with Event Management to incorporate video technology into the event, and creating and helping maintain databases as necessary.

Morale Committee- keeps the spirits of dancers high throughout the entire Dance Marathon weekend with a goal of 100% dancer retention; coordinates diversionary activities including but not limited to theme hours, and games; creates and executes the Line Dance; works with dancer representatives to insure information is understood and organizations are prepared for Dance Marathon; works closely with Entertainment to plan out an event timeline or the weekend; oversees the largest volunteer committee.

Public Relations Committee- responsible for promoting Dance Marathon to the campus, Tallahassee community, and Children’s Miracle Network market area; oversees distribution and implementation of DM press releases to media; creates flyers and other promotional material for Dance Marathon as a whole as well as for other committees; creates a Press Kit for the event.

Recruitment Committee- The Recruitment chair will be responsible for recruiting new organizations, dancers, and faculty and staff members to the Dance Marathon event. They will be responsible for the early recruitment of organizations, and be responsible for both the fall and spring dancer recruitment periods, and for the fall and spring committee drives. Recruitment is also responsible for advertising events via fliers, posters, and other promotions throughout the year.

Special Events Committee- plans and executes fundraising/publicity events prior to Dance Marathon. Some of these events include D.A.N.C.E.R. week, the DM5k Fun Run, a Flag Football Tournament, and Lip Sync competition. This committee works closely with the Fundraising Committee and other on-campus organizations. At the event the Special Events Committee is responsible for the dancer Pamper Packets.

Community Events Committee- Plans and executes fundraising events for the local community. Two major events are High School Dance Marathons with Tallahassee High Schools, and our For the Kids Golf Tournament. Another aspect of the Community Events Committee is Alumni Relations, in which FSU alumni are kept up to date on Dance Marathon news and fundraisers.
